Joe
Figueroa is one of
the leading Salsa dance instructor\Choreographers in Philadelphia.
He has performed and taught all over the US. The attraction to Joe's
lessons is that he concentrates on Leading and Following. Instead
of showing one turn pattern in a lesson, Joe will show three with
similar beginnings but different middles and endings. Then for the
Final song at the end of the lesson urge the men to pick one pattern
during the rotation and try it. That way the man has to truly lead
the pattern and the woman can't walk themselves through it so easily
since it could be anyone of three. Emphasizing following the lead
rather then walking them through it.
It is this method that will be the cornerstone of his upcoming video
series.
Joe
began his career
as a professional dancer for MTV Studios, and his unique style and
talent quickly secured his reputation in New York City. Joe's extensive
background in Freestyle, Pop and Hip Hop ultimately led him to work
with legendary choreographer, Jamie King, who has choreographed
for an impressive array of stars including Britney Spears, Shakira
and Madonna.
In
2000, this accomplished artist and choreographer transitioned his
passion and talent to the art of salsa dancing and quickly became
a prominent figure on Philadelphia's bourgeoning salsa scene with
his unique body movement and choreography. Known as a premiere instructor
and performer, Joe has trained under the guidance of Rogelio Moreno,
Jesus Morales, Josie Neglia, world-renowned salsa dancer Alex DaSilva,
as well as with master instructors in London, Milan and Australia.
Joe has combined his extensive knowledge of dance and creativity
to develop distinctive style of salsa dancing known as "Philly
Style Salsa", an explosive salsa style that combines smooth
moves with sharp, complicated turn patterns. This unique style has
earned Joe the reputation of the hottest salsero on the East Coast.
Joe
currently teaches salsa classes in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and
Delaware and can also be seen performing weekly throughout the tri-state
area. Thousands of students from all across the country have experienced
his captivating style of teaching and instruction. This demand has
led Joe to teach at workshops and congresses across the globe, including
Puerto Rico, Brazil and even Greece. His amazing creativity and
talent for salsa leads students to seek his training from as far
away as Hamburg and Seoul.
As
the co-founder and artistic director of the Luna Negra dance team,
Joe and his team perform their innovative routines at the largest
salsa congresses throughout the United States. Joe is also a founding
member of Salsa
in the City, Philadelphia's largest web-based salsa entertainment
and event production group. Featuring Joe's "Stories from the
Floor" dance editorials and with over 1,500 hits to the site
per month, Joe's reputation and following have placed Philadelphia
on the salsa world map, paving the way for other aspiring dancers
to follow in his footsteps.
When
asked what he thinks his biggest accomplishment is, Joe responds
by saying, "I can lead any woman at any level and make her
feel like the queen of the dance floor."
